Getting started
- Get the app from Google Play, or open ChatterHub on the web.
- Agree to the Terms on the welcome screen — the Privacy Policy is one tap away.
- Enter your number. Pick your country's flag and type the number the way you usually would (
072 123 4567), or type it with its code (+27 72 123 4567). - Type the code we send you by SMS.
- Set up your profile: a username (this is how people find you — your number stays hidden), your name, a picture and an email address.
The five tabs
- Chats — your conversations and groups. The row at the top shows your contacts' status updates.
- Phone — voice and video calls, call history and scheduled calls.
- Payment — ChatterPay, which opens once it has regulatory approval.
- A.I — Masa: ask, summarise, translate, write, and your own personas and knowledge documents.
- Verse — your Today card, calendar, shared lists, votes, bill splits and stokvels.
In a chat
- The + button attaches photos, files, your live location, a contact or a scheduled call. GIFs and stickers are next to the emoji key.
- Hold the microphone to record a voice note, then listen back before you send it.
- Send a photo or video as view once; you are told if someone screenshots it. Mark adult media 18+.
- Catch me up (chat menu, Plus) asks Masa for the five lines you missed; Translate (long-press a message, Plus) turns it into any of the eleven official languages and more.
- Type / to drop in a saved quick reply; the ✨ in the message box rewrites what you typed (Plus). A scheduled message can repeat every week, month or year (Plus).
- Invoice / quote (the + button, Pro) makes a numbered PDF with your business and banking details and sends it into the chat.
- Long-press a chat to pin, mute, lock or archive it. Open its info page for events, shared lists, a group's stokvel, muted keywords, or to block and report someone.
Settings
Settings holds your subscription, Invite friends, earn Plus, the verified business badge (Business), linked devices, extra accounts, changing your number, chat locks and the app PIN, font size, the app language (all eleven South African official languages plus the 100 most spoken in the world), accessibility presets, backups, moving chats to a new account, storage and network usage, and Help and feedback — where the full in-app guide lives.
More than one account
Settings → Accounts → Add account signs in a second number without signing out of the first. Keep up to five and switch between them in one tap; each account's chats, notes and A.I history stay separate.
Proxy mode: when your network blocks ChatterHub
Schools, workplaces, some hotels and some countries block or slow down the address ChatterHub uses. Proxy mode is the way around it: instead of talking to the server directly, the app talks to a relay you choose, and the relay passes everything on. Anyone watching the network sees only the relay.
- Put a relay up. Anything that can forward the ChatterHub API works — nginx or Caddy on a small server, a Cloudflare Tunnel, or a copy of the ChatterHub server on another host. It must forward the whole API and the realtime socket at
/wson the same address. - Switch it on. Settings → Privacy → Proxy mode, then type the relay's address, for example
https://relay.example.org. - Check it took. The app reconnects straight away. Settings → Workspace & Services → API server shows the address in use.
- Switch it off to go back to the normal address.
The app only accepts https:// relays. Photos, videos and files come from the file host and calls from the call server, so a network that blocks those needs them routed too. Nothing about your relay is stored on our side: the address lives on your phone, and switching Proxy mode off removes it.
Getting help
Settings → Help and feedback has the full guide, answers to common questions and a way to tell me what is broken or what you want next. ChatterHub is brand new — your feedback decides what we build.
